Rapido at Paradiso

Still the best party in Amsterdam. But...overpriced and after several great years on it's way back. Funhouse, also by Rapido Events, is ready to take over!

Due to New Year Party started at 5PM and I liked the fact. I was in a good mood when i arrived round about 8PM. I had to rush 'cause i didn't want to miss the moment when Peter Rauhofer took the stage. It became 9,10,11.... Nothing happened. Still Fabio White on Stage. I have nothing against him, quite the contrary. I heard him a few times before and i liked his sets. But this evening it didn't work out. No special moments in his music what you are used to. Sorry to say that but very forgettable. It was like listening to 1-never-ending track. I asked my friends if we didn't hear it before? They agreed and we all thought it's time for a change. We started making jokes that he might miss the plane or the Diva is powdering his nose. Bored of the repeat mode we decided taking a break in the entrée. Look there! A time schedule concerning the DJ's. Peter Rauhofer was supposed to play at 11pm. No further information - so we reentered the dance hall and thought it's a matter of time. When i looked up to the stage, i could not believe what i saw. Jack Chang was standing behind Fabio White and was trying to help him out with his CD's. Our first impression was confirmed. He came with his prepared set list, enough to play for 2-3 hours but no backup. His facial expression was telling everything and someone had to release him of this miserable situation. I am very disappointed by his performance. A professional DJ has to prepared for situation like this. I have no words!Later on it was time for Jack Chang. Showtime. Now it was obvious that Peter Rauhofer won't come. Mainact of the evening - NO SHOW. Meanwhile some people said that Rauhofer didn't show up and that he is not answering his phone. I don't know the reason but it is disrespectful that he don't need the feel to apologize or to explain. But even Rapido didn't inform the crowd. The organizer could have at leased informed the people with a printout. But Nothing! And i'm sure we won't get to know why he didn't appear or what happened. In the hope that people forget...I know that many dutch people don't care who plays or didn't even recognize that Rauhofer didn't show up - as long as enough men show up. But there a few people who care! Jack Chang has a few nice sets in his podcast which i liked before.I think he has the capability beeing a good DJ even he couldn't show it on this evening. Very commercial music and old mixes. I like vocals but you don't need to hear it in every song. Nice Job but not marvelous. Common' guys hearing Kesha's TikTok at a Circuit Party? Not the right place. Nevertheless he saved the Party from a disaster!

Although the no-show from guest DJ-Peter Rauhofer, Rapido NY last time i found still considerably good, thanks to DJ Fabio White who saved the night! However, I was a bit upset the fact the DJ Jack Chang changed Fabio and played all the top 40 remix shit! I really didn't expect Rapido would play such commercial remix songs non-stop, from 1am till 5am. I could tolerate once or twice. But the whole time? especially at sometime that night i heard, "Johnny, la gente es ta muy loca" ... WTF!! Then i just walked away and went to the after :-

Jack Chang was amazing. Pleaze let him play again next time on the main dancefloor.

How can somebody say that Fabio White is good..... is he really a DJ?????????????? Supposed to play for 3 hours (with his prepared song list) but had to play EXTRA 2 hours and he just fucked up everything... people ware looking at him because the music was so horrible and obviously he was dying in the Dj booth.Yes.... Jack.... Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... AMAZING JOB... never in my life I expected for you to do what you did it....... simple make the people to listen to your set till the end (MIUCH BETTER THAN GIANGI CAPPAI).Happy new year to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zeer succesvolle Nieuwjaars editie. Fabio White steelt de show en Jack Chang heeft Rauhofer meer dan uitstekend vervangen Hulde Hulde Hulde.

Beter Beter Beter elke keer weer. Fabio White verdiend een dikke pluim en is er klaar voor om de Rapido's af te sluiten. Heren organisatoren denk ook eens aan Sander Kleinenberg, dat zou denk ik een hele grote toegevoegde waarde zijn. Op naar 17 december Funhouse en uiteraard 1 Januari 2012.

Every time 2000 cards get sold at one Rapido edition. Entrance per person is € 45,-. Total to spend owners € 90.000! Give me 1/2 of that amount of money and I give a party 10 times better than this!

Good idea bishonen, however Paradiso is very difficult to book - which explains the "classic" Rapido's unusual Sunday slot.

For those who didn't attend the party: you have no idea what you have missed! One word: Absolutely fantastic! This was definitely THE unforgettable Classic Rapido we're expecting for. I kept dancing for almost 7 hours because of the endlessly upbeat music of Fabio White, Giangi Cappai and Manny Lehman, and the great performance of Flava. Not to mention the amazing laser performance, fabulous dancers, the friendly, relax and sexy guys from all over the world around me :), the friendly staffs at the bars, despite the heat. Definitely the best dance party during Gay Pride 2011, and the best Rapido event in 2011 till now. Up for next Rapido experience during Halloween weekend in October!

Well it was Big.Bitch’s turn for some escapism with his friends in Holland – poor old Latino.Bitch having to work – ooh such a shame.... :P Queens Day – the national holiday celebration of Queen’s birthday is MASSIVE in The Netherlands but it’s so busy and crowded that I took the easy option and arrived on the Sunday for the Rapido Party. Yes, after New Year I was keen to see if this party could inspire me yet again. So with a VIP package booked at The ‘official’ Albus ‘ hotel it meant there were no issues with tickets - this event being ‘Sold out’ weeks before and people desperately searching over Facebook and Gay Romeo for tickets. With a short wait for ‘the room’ to be ready, yes the same one as New Year! And as usual an envelope with our VIP pass enclosed.

With a 10 minute walk from the hotel, the Paradiso – ex church, building is so easy to find and arriving at 17.00 there was no queue at VIP and a short queue for other tickets This meant we were swiftly inside (no security) and onto the coat check which was a minimal of a wait. We were up on the first floor having a welcome champagne drink before I could cruise a handrail. Taking our place on this balcony overlooking the packed dance floor – joined on either side by a group of hotties and forcing me to strip off my newly purchased vest immediately – well it was soo hot already but sadly that fashion piece didn’t last very long did it! This was a great spot as downstairs looked heaving and we needed to take in the ambience – with its high ceilings and balconies this is a fabulous venue. With music being pumped by Dikky Vendetta NL, Fabio White UK, ABEL USA and Giangi Cappai IT – then there was certainly had a great line up to entertain us.

There is however more to offer in this cavernous club – downstairs there is a chill out Lounge complete with bean bags and DJ Bloom. The toilets are always well maintained by some delightful ladies and there even is a stall outside – although never quite sure if this is linked to the toilets or not – but they do a nice line in lolly pops and Rapido arm bands. The central stair case means easy, safe, well lit navigation – no banging your heads in the dark here! There is a convenient bar on the stepped first floor balcony, and a second room – which we passed through but sadly didn’t get to stay to hear RW (NL) or Jack Chang UK. Then upstairs on the second floor is the twilight zone of a dark rooms balcony – standing at the railings you are part of the party and can dance away. Step a few meters inland and you are in a dusk and sit on one of the benches in that twilight and who know who comes to visit you. Nice to see plenty of condoms at the top of the stairs leading onto this balcony – and plenty of cute guys having a cruise. And leaning on the railings while a cute blonde guy caters for your every need is far more entertaining than being in some pitch black dungeon to find out some toothless cretin is sucking away at you :P

But here we were missing out on the party, so exiting the contact balcony, full unloaded then we headed down to feel the atmosphere of the main room. Gliding down the main staircase and into the main room. Only stopping for a drink at the bar and then finding a perfect stop to the right hand side – on the raised levels that stand at the edges of the dance floor. We had a perfect view of the stage and in a position where you don’t get jostled or knocked by people walking past! Plus we were on show to the world as we watched the gyrating bodies of the dancers on the stage to hear a flawless performance by Jeanie Tracy.
Plenty of international guys from every corner of Europe and beyond, and quite a few familiar faces from London finding our secret clubbing destination her in Holland.

We took a quick exit at 01.30 back to the hotel for my every so glamous friend to change from his shorts to his evening wear! So we missed the courtesy buses (assuming they were there) and but took a ten minute transfer to the Rapido After party at Wester Unie.

Again we suffered no queue – perhaps being a bit late. But with a 5 Euro deposit we hired one of their little lockers to store our jackets. Then navigated the chip system to buy drinks and were sorted. This is a magnificent industrial sized venue full of rock hard steel girders but lacks those vantage points that let you cruise and be cruised - the balcony feels far away from the action but also represents the better cruising ground. But to hear the UK’s Italian maestro DJ Pagano at his best then you need to be in the thick of topless hunks on the dance floor.

But with tiring feet it was an early 04.00 that this b.itchin bunch had to retire back to the hotel but with fond memories of yet another pumping Rapido visit. This maintaining Rapido as our hottest tip on our clubbing journey is Europe so far – it starts from the expertly organised Rapido website to the simple clear and effective Facebook updates and a club promoter who gets the event pages right first time. Then the ticketing, hotel link up, security, friendly staff, a great easy to navigate venue – with plaenty of chill out space, enough bars and a handy drinks station in the main entrance hall. Plus a great DJ line up – and all this before we even mention the gorgeous guys from all over Europe. Yes, Rapido is a winner and with it being every 3 months – it keep sit fresh and we’ll be back for sure.
